Cedar wood essential oil use in cosmetics


Cedar wood essential oil – as the name suggests derived from cedar trees, contains numerous components that may contribute to the treatment of a variety of health conditions that affect the mind and body. Its properties are: antiseborrheic, antiseptic, antispasmodic, tonic, astringent, diuretic, emmenagogue, expectorant, insecticidal, sedative and fungicidal substance. It is extracted through the process of steam distillation from the bark of the Cedar Wood tree.

This essential oil can be used in many ways to benefit the skin as a simple dilution in a carrier oil. It can also be used in your homemade natural cosmetics where the cedar wood essential oils should be around 2-3%. You can also add it to some of your favourite cosmetic products as creams, conditioners, and shampoos.

To manage greasy hair or dandruff add 9-10 drops of cedar wood essential oil to your shampoo. Massage it into your scalp and hair and let sit for 3-5 minutes and then wash with water.

Few drops of cedar wood essential oil can be used with any of your favourite carrier oils like coconut, grape seed etc. to treat rashes or irritated skin. Simply rub some into the affected area twice per day.

To deal with oily skin issues you can use cedar wood oil blend as a cleanser and toner – mix a few drops of the essential oil with your regular cleanser and use like a normal cleanser to re-balance the skin. For acne, use few drops to dab on at night before you go to bed.

Some general benefits and uses are curing acne, arthritis, bronchitis, dandruff, dermatitis, kidney disorders, treatment for oily skin, etc.

Despite all the benefits, we recommend you to use cedar wood oil in low concentration to avoid skin irritation. Pregnant women should avoid its use altogether. It’s always suggested to consult with your physician before adding this to your intake.
